As part of our scanning process, we try to identify malicious websites, specifically websites engaging in phishing and brand impersonation. Whenever possible, we try to attribute malicious behavior to a certain brand.
Our philosophy for detecting malicious websites is somewhat unique and slightly differs from the approach taken by other providers in this space.
- We are very aggressive in trying to detect malicious behavior, which means that some of our detections will be false positives.
- We try to attribute malicious activity to a brand whenever possible.
- Our brands database is manually curated and contains all brands that we currently track.
- Brands can be companies (like PayPal), conglomerates (like Microsoft), affiliates (like regional banks), government entities, and other generic umbrella categories for related content.
- You can ask us to add brands to our brand database. Simply reach out to us via email!
- We detect malicious behavior only based on actual content found on the scanned website.
- We currently do not detect malicious behavior purely based on domain names or URLs.
